“Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young.”- Henry Ford
As I grow older, I become more and more increasingly aware of life around me as a whole. I love to learn! I have been accused of inviting chaos into my life because I keep my head buried in books and the computer reading and learning about stuff, life! And over the past couple of years, along with my hubby a lot of what we've been learning about, is what and how we are blindly immersing ourselves in chemicals on a daily basis! Such as the foods we eat, the cosmetics we use and the clothes we wear. We are inundated with chemicals...it's in just about EVERYTHING!
People are being diagnosed with gluten allergies, diabetes and cancer at an alarming rate! Just recently we spent 5 weeks in the states. And during that time we learned of 3 people under the age of 50 that was diagnosed with lung cancer, with one that passed away during our stay! And ALL of which never smoked! Many believe that cancer is genetic and can't be avoided. But we have learned from various studies that cancer can be avoided despite the genetic tendencies by adjusting your lifestyle and eating habits.
Even though we live in a highly developed, modern world, I always revert back to asking myself, “How did the ancients eat? How did the ancients live?” And although, it is close to impossible to live the way the ancients lived, we can go back to our roots of ingesting and using the natural resources that has been provided by God himself! David and I are the first to admit that this is no easy task. We are surrounded by fast easy ways to please our bodies, taste buds and appetites. And let's face it, life is pretty hectic in these modern times!
On a daily basis, women are exposed to 168 chemicals and men to 85 chemicals from the cosmetics and body care products used. Two of the most common chemicals found in cosmetics are formaldehyde and toluene. Formaldehyde is used to preserve dead bodies and for making pressed wood. And causes cancer. Toluene is derived from petroleum or coal tar sources and damages your immune system. Just imagine rubbing petroleum on your face every morning and night or bathing in funeral home preservatives! That's basically what were doing on a daily basis but masked in cosmetic form!
Two consecutive FDA investigations found lead in 100 percent of the lipsticks tested. And the amounts of lead found aren't small. The brands that tested positive for high lead levels included well-respected national brands including L'Oreal, Revlon, Avon, and Cover Girl. And high-end brands like Dior and M.A.C. weren't exempt either!
Scientists and researchers are concerned that many of these chemicals may be carcinogenic or wreak havoc with our hormones, our body's regulating system. But the impact of these chemicals may be most severe on the developing brain, Perera said.
For years, we lived in the dark concerning chemically enhanced products. However, the more knowledge we gain, the more wisdom we are bestowed. There are other alternatives to the toxic chemicals we are drenching our bodies in. And from my experience, at least up until now, I look better, feel better and have lesser stress in my step! The choice is yours...But don't you think you owe it to yourself to be the best you can be?
Proverbs-"Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you. The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding."
