There's Nothing Civil About War!
We recently watched the movie “Civil War.” This movie painted a great picture of how often we go to war with the people in our lives that are closest to us...
And many times the reasons aren't anything legitimate, genuine or even the simple truth.
In the movie, information was fed to close friends used as a weapon to tear them apart. In the end of the movie, Captain America overcame his pride and sent a letter to Ironman saying they would always be friends and he would always be there for him. The question entered my mind immediately..."Do we do this?"
Several years back, something very similar happened in my life. Someone very close to our family, fed a bed of lies to my husband. The slanderous story was twisted in a way that was used intentionally to create deceit in the attempt to tear out marriage apart. The details of the fabricated tale were so specific that it might have as well been true, or easily misconstrued as the truth. The fact of the matter is, it was a well-calculated and planned out lie. And interestingly enough, names were given along with a “supposed” witness used to collaborate these tall tales that was also very close to us.
I do believe, that ONLY because of the strong relationship that my husband and I share, prompted my husband to come to me the day after he received the report. After, he tried repeatedly to hash it out privately in his own mind, he came and spilled the beans about the information that was fed to him. However, it was quickly dismissed after the named person involved was met face-to-face, which then completely eliminated any doubt that was placed in my husband's mind about what allegedly happened.
I can earnestly say that I am so thankful for the strong bond, commitment, trust and loyalty that my husband and I share with one another. Because this bond exists, I can safely say that any fiery dart aimed at us was and is quickly extinguished.
So often, there are enemies that try to rip people or families apart. Often, it takes place, when we are least expecting it. But can also come expected when someone has it out for us. And like in our case, for reasons unknown. I often believe that these people intentionally attempt to betray us due to jealously. It could be that you have something that they want, but don't have and can't attain... such as, money, material things, a happy marriage, your spouse, or a simply a good life. Or they just desire chaos and disarray and you were the chosen target for their deluded sport. Whatever the reason may be, we need to be aware of the dangers. And be willing and prepared to use openness, honesty, trust and loyalty with whomever the other person or people that involved are.
Blessed is the peacemaker
We also need to remember, that we are not subject to dealing with these troublemakers when they are attempting to destroy our personal lives. Many times, we need to remove these troublesome instigators from our lives in order to live in peace and harmony. The bible says we need to guard our hearts (Proverbs 4:23). In our case, that is what my husband and I were forced to do, but only after we attempted to clarify things. The contact was severed with the provocateurs and we turned to God as we prayed for him to grant us forgiving hearts. Forgiveness was a struggle for us due to the severity of the situation. However, we must pursue forgiveness for our own sake and peace of mind. Jesus tells us we must forgive 7x70 times...
Our story turned out a little different than it did with Captain America and Ironman. In the movie, Captain America made the first step in repairing the damage that was done between him and his friend. It's great if one person takes that first step of reconciliation and in my perspective, is what should take place. Blessed is the peacemaker (Matt. 5:9). Unfortunately, this didn't happen for us and is common if one party is unwilling to work things out. It takes two to make things right. Both parties involved need the desire to be open, honest and forgiving towards one another.
I guess there are a few things that can be learned from a superhero movie!
With Love and Blessings,
